Nataliia Grygorieva (Domini) - SYAA 2024
My name is Nataliia Grygorieva, I was born in Moldova on the 23rd of March 1989, but I grew up in Ukraine. My father is a military colonel and my mother was an economist. My family hoped I would become a decent travel agent or a multitask manager but when I was 17 y.o. I chose to study philosophy.
So I majored in Philosophy graduating from Mechnikov National University of Odessa in 2011. Then supporting myself I was a road broadcaster at the Odessa radio station; a journalist for a number of newspapers; an account manager at an seafarers agency, then at an educational company; a research assistant at the Ukrainian Psychoanalytic Society; a coordinator at a film school - the experience which resulted in me shooting my own student short action film “Abracadabra”.
In 2019, I got my second major - this time in Psychology, at Kiev Institute of Modern Psychology and Psychotherapy. Since then I have been making my living as a psychologist. There is no easy way to explain how my life experiences brought me to the decision to pursue a career as an animation director. But during the first weeks of the Russian invasion of Ukraine 2022, the only thing I could do was drawing, creating a series of short animation videos #PutlerKaput and uploading them on Instagram.
Friends and friends of friends advised me to apply to Estonian Academy of Arts, and I did so. Lucky as it is, from September 2022 I started my Master in Animation there, and realized that I find myself in the right place. Feel myself joyful while step by step discovering the animation world and its secrets. Yes, it is neither easy nor fast, but it is magnificent.
